This week marks the 40th anniversary of National Volunteer Week, celebrating volunteers across the UK and their incredible work.
Volunteers are the beating heart of a charity. They provide invaluable support in their local communities and help charities spread their message and services far and wide. They also bring diverse skills from their various backgrounds and lived experiences.
Volunteer Week is a chance for us to recognise the fantastic contribution our own volunteers make to our communities and to say a big thank you.
Suzi Henderson, Cloverleaf CEO, said: “We are incredibly blessed to have an amazing, dedicated team of volunteers that help us deliver peer support groups and services. Their commitment ensures that Cloverleaf can continue to support those who need our help, and we are truly grateful for everything they do for us.”
Benefits of volunteering
While volunteering provides essential support to charities, it also can bring numerous benefits to those who volunteer too. Here’s just a few of the many benefits of volunteering:
- Making a difference
Volunteering provides a sense of purpose and satisfaction. Knowing that you’re making a difference can be deeply rewarding.
- Skill development
Volunteers can acquire new skills or refine existing ones. This can be personal and professional growth from helping our creative groups to delivering presentations in the community.
- Making new friends
Volunteering is a great way of meeting new people and building lasting friendships. It creates a network of supportive and engaged members.
- Improves wellbeing
Studies have shown that volunteering can have positive effects on mental and physical health. It can reduce stress, combat depression and promote overall wellbeing.
